Everything you need to know about the new Subaru Solterra
June 21 2022,
Subaru is about to launch its first all-electric model, the Solterra SUV. It's no secret that this vehicle was developed in partnership with Toyota, which in turn offers the bZ4X.
It's obvious that the Subaru Solterra shares many of the same components as the bZ4X, especially when it comes to the powertrain. However, it would be wrong to assume that everything that goes into the model comes from Toyota. Subaru has put in its two cents, as you'll see.
In fact, here's what you need to know about the new Subaru Solterra.
All-wheel drive
The Toyota representative is available in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations. At Subaru, there was no question of offering a model with only front wheels. Consequently, all Solterras come standard with all-wheel drive.
This system uses two electric motors that generate a combined 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. This capability can be deployed differently depending on the driving mode selected. You can choose from the following settings: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-Mode. X-Mode is designed to help with slippery surfaces or uneven terrain. Basically, it modulates power to each wheel independently.
Off-Road Capabilities
And in true Subaru fashion, the Solterra will not be uncomfortable off-road. Those who enjoy off-roading will discover a model that offers 8.3 inches of ground clearance, as well as a feature called "Grip Control." Essentially, we're talking about a low-speed cruise control. In turn, steering wheel paddles are used to adjust the regenerative braking force. The Solterra can distribute 60% of its torque to the rear axle.
Battery, range and capabilities
The Solterra benefits from a battery that offers a powerful 72.8 kWh. The announced autonomy is 367 kilometers. With a Level 2 charging station, the Solterra's 6.6 kWh on-board charger allows for capacity recovery in about 9 hours. With a fast terminal offering 100 kW direct current, 80% of the vehicle's freedom can be recovered in just under an hour.
Finally, in terms of design, there are similarities between the Solterra and bZ4X, but the Subaru product signature is clearly visible, both inside and out.
Soon, the Solterra will be in dealerships. Don't hesitate to come and see us to discover it a little closer.
